Amnesty International: Safety Barrier

Since 2009, at least 177 of America’s schools experienced a shooting. Could a technological improvement help prevent future attacks?

When it comes to school shootings, the numbers increase year after year and no community is spared. If we cannot stop people from carrying or using guns, can we at least stop them from entering schools with them?

This is the topic we intended to solve by partnering with Amnesty International. The idea is to create a sensor that is able to detect gunpowder from more than 50 feet away- covering every open entrance. By detecting the electric field that naturally occurs in gunpowder, the sensor privately alerts the school security guards and local police.
